Saratoga Springs in upstate New York is best known for its racing heritage, symbolized by the Saratoga Race Course. Opened in 1864, the Saratoga Race Course is home to the oldest major thoroughbred horse race in the United States that draws in thousands of visitors from around the globe; it is also the oldest organized sporting venue of any kind in the United States. It is also the place where the potato chip was invented.
