Busan is the second largest metropolis in South Korea, after Seoul. It is the South Korea's largest port and the fifth largest port in the world, and serves as South Korea's major shipping gateway to Japan. During the Korean War, it was one of the only two major cities (along with Daegu) to remain in South Korean control throughout the war, and also served as South Korea's temporary capital at one time.
