The Seoul Metropolitan Subway opened in 1974 and is the largest subway system in the country. With 195 miles (314 kilometers) of track, it ranks 5th in the world in length. It is 3rd in the world in annual rides, with over 2 billion rides every year. It has the 4th most stations in the world with 284 stations (not including some lines that directly connect with the Seoul system). The system not only serves Seoul but also neighboring Incheon and Gyeonggi province, as well as Chungcheongnam province.
