Dongdaemun (also known as Heunginjimun) served as the eastern gate of Seoul's old city walls during the Joseon Dynasty. It was built during King Taejo's reign in 1396 and was renovated in 1453; it was rebuilt in 1869 and that structure is the one currently standing today.
