Bosingak is a bell pavilion that was originally built in 1396 when Seoul was still a walled city. It houses the bell that was used to notify others of the opening and closing times for the city's gates. Because of its bell, Bosingak is credited with giving its surrounding street and district the name "Jongno," which means "Bell Street."
