The statue of General Douglas MacArthur in Jayu Park (Freedom Park) is one of the most famous landmarks in Incheon, due to the city being the site of the Incheon Landing (also known as the Battle of Incheon). The battle was overly decisive and is the event credited to the eventual retreat of communist forces during the Korean War. MacArthur planned the attack that involved American, South Korean and Canadian forces, which also led to the re-capture of nearby Seoul. Today, both Incheon and Seoul are thriving cities in South Korea.
