The Parthenon is a temple built to honor the Greek goddess Athena, built between 447 BC and 432 BC. It was converted to a Christian church in the 5th century AD and turned into a mosque in the 1460s. It was partially destroyed in 1687 from an attack by the Venetians. It is perhaps the most well-known figure of the ancient Greek civilization. It is part of the Acropolis of Athens, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
