The Colosseum is an amphitheater in Rome, the largest one built in the Roman Empire. Built in 72 AD and completed in 80 AD, it is one of the icons of Roman architecture and engineering. It could seat 50,000 spectators and hosted everything from dramas to gladiator battles; in the present day, the interiors are in poor condition and incapable of hosting events anywhere but outside the structure itself. Currently it is depicted in the five-cent Euro coin.
