The Blue House, also known as Cheongwadae, is a complex of buildings which serve as the President of the Republic of Korea's residences and offices. Despite its name, it is actually a collection of buildings. It was built on the site of Gyeongbokgung Palace's garden; the palace served the role of the leader's residences prior to the Blue House. It was originally home to the government-general building before the Japanese colonial government constructed the site's first official residence in 1939. It has been the official residence of the leader since then. In this photo, the Blue House's administrative building is in the background (amidst a tight security presence).
