Seodaemun Prison is a former prison and current museum located in Independence Park. It was built in 1907 by the colonial Japanese government when Korea was a protectorate of Japan. After Korea turned into a Japanese colony, the prison was used to house Korean independence and anti-colonial activists and was the site of many alleged human rights abuses during that time.
