The Fairmont Empress hotel is a historic hotel opened in 1908. It is currently the hotel of choice for visiting members of the British royal family and was once frequented by writing legend Rudyard Kipling. It was originally built as a terminus hotel for the Canadian Pacific Railway's steamship line; after the line ceased to exist, it became a magnet for celebrities and famous personalities.
