Swangard Stadium is the home of the Vancouver Whitecaps before their debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2010, when they moved to Empire Field; since the stadium did not meet MLS standards, plans were made to renovate the stadium but were dropped. Opened in 1969, it is currently home to Simon Fraser University's football team.

The McBarge is officially called the Friendship 500 and was the first ever floating McDonald's restaurant. It was built for the 1986 World's Fair in Vancouver to showcase future technology and architecture. After the Fair, it shut down; it has been anchored in the Burrard Inlet since 1991. Recently, discussions have been underway to finally relocate the barge to Mission, British Columbia and develop it as a restaurant again.

The Longest Game 4 CF ("Longest Game for Cystic Fibrosis") set the Guinness World Record for the longest ice hockey game on September 5, 2011 at the Canlan Ice Sports Burnaby 8 Rinks. The game consisted of 40 women playing 4-hour shifts, totaling 243 hours and 5 minutes (about 10 days), and over 2500 goals scored. It was planned as a fundraiser for cystic fibrosis research. Simon Fraser University (SFU) is the second largest university in British Columbia. It is nicknamed "the Peak" due to its main campus' peculiar location as the sole occupant atop Burnaby Mountain; officially, the university was named after Simon Fraser, an important fur trader and explorer in the Pacific Northwest region. SFU's most famous alumnus is Terry Fox, who attempted to run across Canada to raise funds for cancer research and one of the most important icons in Canadian history (in 2 surveys about Canada's greatest heroes, he finished in 1st and 2nd place respectively); today, there is a Terry Fox Run fundraiser across Canada every September. SFU is also consistently ranked in the top 5 list of Canada's best comprehensive universities.

Metropolis at Metrotown is the largest shopping mall in Western Canada, and second largest in Canada (behind only the infamous West Edmonton Mall). Its name comes from its predecessors, Eaton Centre Metropolis and Metrotown Centre, which merged to form a single mega-mall in 2005.
