The Louvre Museum is the world's most-visited art museum and one of the largest museums in the world. It is located in the Louvre Palace, a fortress built in the 12th century. It was first transformed into a museum during the French Revolution. It currently hosts famous art pieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. In 1989, the main entrance was shifted to a new glass pyramid, known as the Louvre Pyramid; it quickly became an icon of the museum.
